On Wednesday night, my client Tekron International was amongst the organisations/companies represented at the 2017 Wellingtonian of the Year Awards, the Wellys, at Te Papa.
With the CEO (Amanda Santos) nominated in the Business Category, and one of the Founding Directors (Brian Smellie) nominated in the Science and Technology category, Tekron was one of the few organisations filling two tables with clients, friends, and peers all there to support the two finalists.

I was honoured to be amongst those supporting both Amanda and Brian. I could only imagine how both were feeling inside. On the outside, they looked the same, they acted the same BUT were dressed differently – definitely looking sharp for the night!
Seriously, being nominated for such prestigious awards, amongst some great people in the Coolest Little Capital should make one feel great, right? Whether you win or not, merely being nominated among a great number of your peers and let alone being a finalist, is recognition enough for the work you have done (and/or are doing).
So, my heartfelt congratulations to both Amanda and Brian for being finalists. And great job to those who nominated you. I think quite often we’re aware of a person’s good work but we skip the part where we tell others or nominate them for an award. So nominators, good work too!
I'm curious to know if both had speeches written and tucked away somewhere like we see celebrities do? (smirk)!
Have you ever been nominated for an Award? If so, how did you feel/handle it? Keen to hear your thoughts/experiences!
